Insurance: What company, and how much?

With Just Cars, they offer a variable excess. This means that you can increase the excess up to around $1,700 and have the annual premium dramatically reduced.

A good idea if you are a good driver and have a history of not making claims.

Sounds like Just Car is starting to become less ridiculous. Might give them a try again, since Shannons seem to think increasing the premium each year is somehow acceptable.

I just went back to just cars. The previous company (an offshoot of RAA) had more than doubled its premium for me (i did have a claim earlier in the year but still). I got JC for $950 with rating 1 protection, but i do have a much lower 'agreed' value that i couldnt get increased.

Also just cars have an extra $500 excess on top of any other age and standard exesses for any theft claim due to it being a frequently stolen car :S the woman on the phone said that not many models have that.....

Not too bad considering AAMI was quoting me $4100 for a liberty GT.

There was never any mention of that when I was inquiring, perhaps it's just around your part of town?

I do read all the policies, hence my decision to stay away from Just Car.

However out of curiosity I just requested another online quote from Just Car, on it there was no mention of any additional theft excess being due across the board. For me, only the standard excess applied.

I also re-read the policy booklet PDF, which states "Depending upon your circumstances, you may also need to pay one or more of the following excesses."

So it seems in my circumstances a theft excess is not required. Dion's circumstances are obviously different.

I couldn't find where it says that it is required for all policies, and there wasn't any mention of our cars in particular being a thief magnet.

Though I'm happy to be corrected if you can point out where it specifically states an additional theft excess applies to all VR-4 policies.

That's actually true. My Silvia remains uninsured.

More expensive than Shannons do mine, and mine is modified. But I guess Just Car might do mine cheaper than yours cos I live in country Vic.

when i rang up to get a quote, i had to explain how manuals are are produced in the greatly lower number compared to autos, then he put it down as a modification. thus im guessing rasing the total price of the insurance quote

LOL! Insurance companies hey? Wuold be nice if some of these places that bang on about how they're experts in imports etc actually employed people who know stuff. I'll take a wild guess here and suggest that they use Glass's Guide to identify models. Glass's Guide only have auto Legnums listed in their value guide.

My manual is insured with Just Cars and I had no issue with them identifying the transmission.

Perhaps it depends on the operator you get on the day?

Mines manual and with just car, ring up and make sure you talk to a person not a muppet

insurance companies also use cars currently/previously listed with them, if the person to take the initial call logs it in properly and doesnt just make a special case
