I insured our 98 Legnum with Lumley Special Vehicles today and was shocked at how cheap it was, i cost me $648.13 pa with an excess of $1000, insured for $15,500 car has to be garaged o/nite and must have AS Engine Immobiliser and you are part of an "enthusiast motor club" My wife and i are over 25 and have had no claims or disqualifications in the last 5 years. bumping up an old thread. have an opportunity to buy a legnum. one issue holding me back is insurance (and that its auto, but not so much of a concern. :p) im 18, never had a crash, have held insurance as long as ive had a car (since 16 years old). no speeding fines, squeaky clean. get my full licence in 4 months. currently insured with AAMI as a second driver under mum's name for my liberty ($590 a year) - obviously i wouldnt dream of getting a quote like that for a twin turbo private import. but under $1000 would be nice - is it possible AT ALL, and with what company if so? car can be registered and insured in mother's name, as my current one is. EDIT - oh and lolbiscuits for the first person to mention 3rd party property insurance. not on a $12,000 car, thanks. :banghead:

Mate, even if its under your Mum's name still, any company will charge well over $1000 for a Legnum, as long as your behind the wheel at your age.

I'm 25, squeaky clean, 65% no claim bonus insured with LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles) 133 LSV(578). second driver my wife (28) also squeaky clean, living in bathurst NSW, $900 annually insured for $12000

Had to have an alarm and an approved 3 point immobilizer. Oh, and the car is completely stock(added CD player).

for my age, its the best ive heard of.

mind you, I did speak to the under writer of the company.

(contact made through car dealer I bought car from)

Sanjay give H2P (hard 2 place) a call and see what they can do - an offshoot of RAA insurance, miles better than just car but possibly slightly more expensive though

H2P quote for an 18yo will most likely come back at $1600+.
Just Cars would be your best bet, as you can lower your premium if you have a massively high excess.

Im with just car. 4k excess, but 1250 premium. I never cause accidents (yet) so i dont mind the excess... im 19, and have a bad traffic history (including 6 month suspension) :) hope that helps

oh bloody hell. another knife in the side.

destiny really doesnt want me to have one of these. im not paying $1600 a year to insure a $10,000 car.

its not gonna be 1600 if you bump up your excess - just dont cause an accident unless you got 4 grand to spare hehe. my agreed value is 16000.

I currently work for both of these companies (i do motor vehicle claims for both RAA Insurance and H2P Insurance)...and will soon become the underwriter for H2P Insurance (3 weeks to go :))

I have all my cars insured with shannons, the legnum costs me $1100 a year, im 24 with a clean history, rating 1 (locked in), locked in agreed value of $17k (so it doesnt depreciate each year!), and all mods listed (wheels, exhaust, suspension and cd/dvd player) and with the missus as 2nd driver. But then again, i am very good friends with the senior underwriter and state distribution manager for shannons :)

my pulsar insured with them is only $550yr full comp, with $40k worth of mods, locked in agreed value of $25k, rating 1, clean history - however its on a limited use policy (the less its driven, the cheaper the premium).

oh and sanjay - insuring your vehicle under your parents name and with you as a listed driver...to get cheaper premiums is technically fraud ;) besides most companies (i know we do it this way) will rate a premium on the youngest driver to avoid this type of behaviour, so if mum & dad insure a car with their 18yr old son as an occasional driver, the policy will be quoted on as if the policy was being taken out by the 18yr old, so the price reflects this.

true, H2P is certainly better than just cars. you get choice of repairer (just cars dont). should your car get written off H2P insurance will pay the agreed value...just cars will pay the agreed value OR market value whichever is lower (so effectively, your agreed value means jack shit!).

Shannons Insurance is the same as well :(

I just got my premium update yesterday (approaching 12 months now), its dropped from 1450 to 1000 bucks!!!! you bloody ripper!! :D

thats with a theft claim early last year, red light camera 3 years ago, 5 years driving now, 23 y.o.

the other thing to consider is H2P take into account a 5 year driving record, just cars is only 3 (thats a bit bad if you were a DH driver when younger like me :()

gonna be an underwriter eh...cant get me a good deal? :D in my experience, if the car is a V8 or turbo they wont let it be insured in my parent's name with me as a listed driver...for something humble like a liberty AAMI didnt seem to mind (premium went up by about $150 though).
therefore: liberty in mum's name alone - about $450
liberty in my name alone - $1600 (what the ****?)
in both names - $600 (nice happy medium)

in any case, if i cant get full comp for $1000 or less i wont be buying the car. not going to lump myself with a $4000 excess or something retarded like that, either. :) unfortunately due to my age i get thrown into the DH drivers group like bogan bob 7 years ago :ROFLMAO:

I would read this WHOLE thread carefully.....

You will notice that guys/girls of all ages are near and over the $1000 a year mark for compo and thats without a 19yo second driver.

You really need written quotes dude. I would get these before i even THOUGHT about buying a VR4, spesh if it comes down to the money....

These are expensive cars to run, but if you want the best you gotta pay for it

Good luck man! :D

^^ very true. kinda like a rotory lol.

sanjay, raa wont insure anyone under 25 with a v8 or turbo/supercharged regardless whether its in ur name or just as a driver...thats where H2P insurance comes into play.

im 24, rating 1 and paying $1100 through shannons, so i would almost say u will NOT get full comp insurance under $1k...third party property, yes.
