Another question, about the tint in the factory privacy glass. Is it a coating (which side?) or is it all the way through the glass?
Critically, it is ONLY a tint, as in its like a dye mixed into the glass. It provides zero UV protection in stock form.

Oh, and don't try tinting your moonroof glass - there's details elsewhere as to why.

Ok i know i have read this somewhere but cant find it now. Resetting the ECU is as simple as disconecting the poitive terminal of the battery? Am i likely to strike any problems from doing this ?

Apart from reseting the clock:)

Just remember to depress the brake pedal with the ignition turned on whilst the battery is disconnected.

Brad beat me to it:)

Its a form of oxidation called galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals in contact with each other within an electrical circuit. Use gold-plated terminals and you won't see it any more (gold is, for all intents and purposes, chemically inert and thus won't oxidise).

I have some SPIII left over that I'm intending to use to flush the power steering with. Will that be fine or should I get some Dextron rated ATF instead?

Interestingly, the workshop manual calls for SPII .. is that superceeded by the III or is it a totally different spec?

I've got a brake bleeder suction gun that connects up to an air compressor, I wonder if this could be used to suck all the new fluid through without the usual steering wheel rotating & turning ignition over procedure.

No, don't use dextron-rated ATF anywhere in your VR4, its a totally different spec'ed lubricant.

Yes, SPIII meets or exceeds all components of the SPII spec, so use that instead.

Can it suck THROUGH a pump? That doesn't sound like a particularly good idea to me... :banghead:

OK stupid question time!

Is the 80,000KM service a major service or just a basic one? Can't seem to find any info around the forums on it.

Cheers and sorry for the nub questions :p

Cool bananas, saves me buying more fluids then. I checked and I have 2L of SPIII remaining so will use that in the power steering.

Yeah I wasn't sure about that either but was thinking of ways to make the procedure a bit less messy. Looks like the traditional method is still the go.

Technically the major service is 100k, but there is no harm in doing it early;)
If you do a search for 'service schedule' something will pop up.

Usually they are X kms or X months, whichever comes first. Not too sure about the VR-4, but I have a Civic manual in front of me that says 100,000kms or 60 months (5 years).

Since our cars are getting on in the years, the age alone should dictate an early major service. Especially if you don't know the cars service history.

My car has about 53,000km on it now and I'm planning to do the major service sometime in the next 12 months for peace of mind.

Ah great thanks, must have mis read something a while back. I think I'll start saving money now for the 100k service and just get a basic service for the moment :D

Cheers!

Jordan.

My Galant Guide states that the major service is to be completed at the earlier of 100,000klms or 5 years.

The major service includes the usual "minor" service (oil, oil filter etc) and:

a) timing belt;

b) water pump;

c) thermostat;

d) cambelt hydraulic tensioner;

e) cambelt idler and tensioner pulleys;

f) PCV valve; and

g) spark plugs.

Yeah I did read through that.

I was looking specifically for information on whether or not the 80,000 Km service was a classed as a 'major service' and if so which parts were needed.

As I mentioned earlier I most likely mis-read something, actually come to think of it I may be thinking about my Honda Prelude which is due for a major service (albeit at 180,000 Km).
